Manchester Marathon returns to Gorse Hill

Sunday 10th October and it’s a new route

The runners have usually got through Gorse Hill early on in the race but this time they’re going into the City Centre before coming into Gorse Hill at about the nine mile mark, so there’ll be considerably more spread along Chester Road.

Road Closures

The organisers are yet to publish full details of the road closures but we do know it will be an elongated start. We particularly need to know details of Chester Road closures, whether full or partial.

Regardless of the fine detail, it’s inevitable that getting to Stretford, Chorlton, Sale and Altrincham by car will be difficult on that day. The race finishes on Talbot Road outside UA92 so, it looks like the Talbot Road/Warwick Road junction will be closed throughout.

Volunteers

The organisers are currently actively recruiting volunteers to support the event in a number of roles on event day and help create an amazing festival atmosphere. Local clubs, organisations or individuals who would enjoy being part of the action in a volunteer role, can email volunteers@humanrace.co.uk. In reward for groups’ valuable time and support, they offer an incentive donation of up to £40 per person volunteering which goes directly back to supporting their local cause.

All Trafford Leisure Centres to shut from tonight (Covid19)

Trafford Council and Trafford Leisure is announcing today that all its leisure centres and outdoor facilities will be temporarily closed with immediate effect, from 9pm 20th March 2020.

The health of residents is paramount and our number one priority. We have to limit social contact to safeguard the NHS and prevent more people from catching the virus.

Cllr Jane Slater, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Health, Wellbeing and Equalities

Over the coming days and weeks Trafford Leisure and Trafford Council will explore local opportunities to provide the community with outdoor physical activities in large open spaces, allowing the community to keep well and active whilst maintaining social distancing.

Advice from NHS England states that staying active and maintaining physical activity is an important part of remaining healthy. Trafford Leisure will be providing advice and guidance for indoor exercises on its website and social platforms and will also provide its members with complimentary access to Les Mills On Demand, so they can continue their exercise regime at home.

Gym to open at White City?

Low cost operator ‘The Gym’ will be opening at White City if plans submitted to Trafford Council go ahead.

Membership of ‘The Gym’ is at low cost, with no minimum contract period. As such members can join for just a single month, or have a break within their membership at nominal cost. ‘The Gym’ opens on a 24 hour basis to ensure flexibility of use by its members.
